Lieutenant Bill Elbert

Lieutenant-Sheriff Bill Elbert was raised in Monterey, California and is a graduate of Palma High School. He has a Bachelor’s of Science degree from CSU Sacramento in Physiology of Exercise. Elbert attended the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI) Class 409. He holds numerous professional certificates from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards in Training (POST) as well as Advanced Homicide and Advance Sexual Assault certificates from Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI).  

He started his career with the Sheriff’s Office in May, 2005. As a Deputy-Sheriff, he was assigned to Patrol, Court Security, and Criminal Investigations. During these assignments Elbert worked other collateral assignments including Solano Fire Investigation Unit, Field Training Officer, K-9 handler, and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team operator. He also provided agency training as a Defensive Tactics Instructor, Taser Instructor, Less Lethal Instructor, and Tactical Rifle Instructor. In 2013, Elbert received the Distinguished Service Award for his actions in the line of duty.

He was promoted to Sergeant-Sheriff in May, 2014. As a Sergeant-Sheriff, Elbert was supervisor for bureaus such as Patrol, Court Security, Civil, and Contract Services. In addition to his regular assignments he also supervised the K-9 Unit as well as the Defensive Tactic and the Taser Teams. In 2016, Elbert co-created a tactical entry program codifying search and entry techniques for the Sheriff’s Office.

On November 5^th 2017 Bill Elbert was promoted to Lieutenant-Sheriff. He is currently assigned as Watch Commander for the Sheriff’s Office.
