Undersheriff Brad DeWall began his career with the Sheriff’s Office as a correctional officer in 1991. In January 1995, he became a deputy sheriff and attended the Napa Valley Police Academy, Class 27. Brad worked a variety of assignments as a deputy sheriff including patrol, court security and criminal investigations. He worked as a Field Training Officer (FTO) for several years and was a Firearms and Taser instructor.  Brad completed extensive investigative course work at the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI) in the specialized area of Homicide and Sexual Assault.

Brad was promoted to Sergeant in May of 2006 by Sheriff Gary R. Stanton. He transitioned to the Patrol Bureau and supervised the K-9 Unit. In 2007, Brad was selected as the Detective Sergeant of the Investigations Bureau.

In December of 2010, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Investigation Services Bureau where he was responsible for the Criminal Investigations, California Multi-jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team (Cal-MMET), Auto-Theft Task Force, Sheriff’s Enforcement Team (SET) and Marine Patrol Bureaus. He also managed the Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Taser, and Technology Teams.

In November of 2012, Brad became the Chief Deputy Coroner and the Public Affairs Officer for the Sheriff’s Office. He also served as the commander of the Sheriff’s Special Weapons and Tactic’s (SWAT) Team and Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT).

From May 2015 - December 2015, Brad served as the Interim Chief Investigator at the Solano County District Attorney’s Office.

In December of 2015, he was promoted to Captain and assigned to command the Public Safety Division of the Sheriff’s Office.

In December of 2017, he became the Division Commander of the Custody Division.

Brad has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University. He holds numerous professional certificates from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards in Training (POST). He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 249th Session. Brad is also a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police, class 64 sponsored by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF).  Brad is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
