Meridian Road Bridge long-term closure, detours in place
May 18, 2017
SOLANO COUNTY – County residents, businesses and visitors should be aware that the Meridian Road Bridge, located across Interstate 80 (I-80) in Vacaville, will be closed for retrofit work starting Friday, May 19 at 6:30 a.m. with construction expected to last up to four months. County residents and businesses are advised to use the I-80 Midway Road Bridge just east of the Meridian Bridge as a general detour during the closure.
I-80 overnight closures with detours
A full overnight closure of westbound and eastbound I-80 between Meridian Road and Midway Road will be in effect Saturday, May 20 at 11 p.m. until Sunday, May 21 at 8 a.m. during partial demolition of the Meridian Road Bridge. Motorists will take a short detour on County frontage roads during the closure. The California Highway Patrol will assist with traffic controls.
About the retrofit project
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform bridge retrofit work to the existing Meridian Road Bridge and will eventually demolish and rebuild the Midway Road Bridge. The work will seismically retrofit the bridge, bringing it up to the latest seismic safety standards.
