February 7, 2020

SOLANO COUNTY – Everyone is welcome to join County officials on Thursday, February 13 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. as they celebrate the grand opening of the new First 5 Center.  Located at 3375 Sonoma Blvd., in Vallejo, the First 5 center is the first of its kind in Solano County and will serve as a welcoming hub, providing a broad range of services to families with young children.

The grand opening celebration will include a Zumbini dance and music class, mindful movement demonstration, arts and crafts activities, an indoor play area featuring a giant mushroom house, ladybug steppers, crawl-in-size acorns, a fire truck, ambulance, the Solano County Mobile Food Pharmacy and Ricky Roo, a children's puppeteer.  Attendees will also learn about free classes, workshops and community resources that will be available at the center to families with children ages zero to five.  This is a family-friendly event, so bring your children.  No need to RSVP – simply show up.

"Children are our most important asset," said Erin Hannigan, District 1 Supervisor and Chairwoman of the Board.  “The First 5 Center is the perfect place to surround families with all the resources they need to help their young children grow and thrive.”

The First 5 Center will provide an environment designed to spark children’s creativity and love for learning by encouraging them to play, learn and grow.  Parents and caregivers will find a safe and welcoming place where they can receive information and be connected to resources in the community, including basic support services, housing employment, food, health, dental and child support services – all provided at no cost.

The new First 5 Center’s hours of operation will be Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday’s 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.  The First 5 Center will be closed on Sunday.
