ABOUT THE COMMISSION / MISSION
The mission of the Solano Commission for Women and Girls (SCWG) is to improve the economic status, health and social welfare, and overall quality of life for women and girls by providing community education and advice to the Solano County Board of Supervisors. The SCWG was established on April 24th, 2018, by the Solano County Board of Supervisors, held its inaugural meeting on October 17, 2018, and now meets monthly. The SCWG formed five committees (Executive Committee, Membership Committee, Communications Committee, and the Status Report Committee, and Events Committee). The Executive Committee meets regularly to oversee the work of the other committees, answer procedural questions, and develop the agenda for the Commission meetings. Other Committees meet as needed. The entire SCWG meets on the third Thursday of every month (except July) from 6-8 pm in the multipurpose room of the County Administration Building located at 675 Texas Street, Fairfield, or virtually on Zoom. The public is welcome to attend.

ACTIVITIES
For the last two years the Commission has been deeply involved creating a “report card” on the status of Women and Girls. The Status Report Committee, working with the whole Commission, published a Status Report which was presented to the Solano County Board of Supervisors in June, 2020. Currently, the Commission has developed six work teams to address some of the prioritized needs listed in the Status Report. These include: Maternal Health and Infant Mortality, Human Trafficking, Homelessness, Poverty, Food Insecurity, and Legislative Advocacy. These teams are doing research on services provided by the county and nonprofits in each topic area to identify gaps in needed services, and to then make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
