Vaccine Prioritization

Prioritization for the vaccine is provided by the federal government and state government. The County’s role and responsibility for any COVID-19 vaccine is logistics: planning and preparing for the distribution of one or more vaccines. This site is frequently updated with information about vaccination priority areas as resources become available to allow for expansion of categorical groups.

Many countries and states want access to vaccines, and like everyone else, we will receive a limited supply at first, with more coming over time. It may take many months before everyone who wants a vaccine has gotten one, which means we all need to continue to reduce our risk of COVID-19 by engaging in behaviors that protect ourselves and others like wearing face masks, keeping our distance, and washing hands frequently.

Safety First

Prioritization for the vaccine will be provided by the federal government and state government. The national system will direct the first doses of vaccine to people working on the front lines at highest risk of contracting COVID-19. The County’s role and responsibility for any COVID-19 vaccine is logistics: planning and preparing for the distribution of one or more vaccines.

The top priority is the safety and health of people who live or work here, and a safe and effective vaccine is a tool in helping reach that goal. The State has established a Scientific Safety Review Workgroup to closely monitor all available information about the candidate COVID-19 vaccines, including their Phase 3 trials, the FDA review process, and any independent evaluations.

Ethics Matter 

The vaccine will be made available based on ethical principles of maximizing benefits, minimizing harm, striving for equity, justice and fairness, and making transparent decisions.
