Solano County hires new Director of Resource Management

SOLANO COUNTY – Solano County officials have selected Terry Schmidtbauer as the new Director of Resource Management.  Starting this month, he will assume leadership over the County’s agency responsible for environmental health, public works engineering and operations, building safety, planning, parks and recreation and Delta Water Activities.

Mr. Schmidtbauer, who has been serving as the Interim Director of Resource Management since July 2020, has more than 17 years of senior and executive management experience with Solano County, serving as an Environmental Health Manager, and most recently as the Assistant Director of Resource Management for the past six years.  He will oversee a $55 million operating budget and more than 130 employees working in seven program and service areas across the County.

In addition to providing strategic direction and support across the department, Mr. Schmidtbauer will also continue his leadership role for overseeing the ongoing property recovery.  

“Having worked with Terry over the past two decades, I know of his ability to understand and take on complex issues, distil them down, and come up with practical solutions,” says John Vasquez, District 4 Supervisor and Chair of the Board of Supervisors.  “As an expert in the field, he has been doing good work for many years, and will continue to do so on behalf of all Solano County residents and businesses.”

Before joining Solano County, Mr. Schmidtbauer worked in Environmental Health and Engineering roles with the Counties of Sutter, Contra Costa and Orange for a combined 12 years of service.  He has also worked as a Park Technician for the Bureau of Land Management in Las Vegas, Nevada and with the Army Core of Engineers in California and Louisiana and California.

Mr. Schmidtbauer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife management from Humboldt State University and is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist with the State of California.  When he is not on the job, he enjoys camping, traveling and spending time with his family.
