County seeks community’s help identifying centenarians

SOLANO COUNTY – The Solano County Board of Supervisors will host the 11th Annual Centenarian Commemoration this October, and they need your help.

"For the past decade, we've been honoring our county's most distinguished residents," says John M. Vasquez, District 4 Supervisor and Chair of the Board.  "It's that time of year again and we are asking our community to help us identify the centenarians living here in Solano, so, if you know someone 100 years of age, please let us know.”

To date the Board has honored more than 120 centenarians in Solano County, the oldest of them, Marie West, reached super-centenarian status in January, 2011.  Super-centenarians are those individuals that who have reached the age of 110 years or older, which only occurs at a rate of about 1 in 7 million people – with an estimated 60-70 super-centenarians currently living in the United States.

Working in partnership with the Senior Coalition of Solano County, the annual Centenarian Commemoration is a way to capture and share the stories of some of Solano County’s oldest residents, bringing attention to some of the issues facing the senior population.

The 11th Annual Centenarian Commemoration will be held at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 1 p.m. in the Board Chambers of the County Administration Center, 675 Texas Street in Fairfield.

If you know of a centenarian, contact Matt Green, Health Education Specialist at (707) 784-8637 and [email protected].  Please contact Mr. Green by or before Friday, September 8 to ensure time to meet with and interview centenarians.  Names are requested even if the centenarian is unable to attend the ceremony.
