CalFresh Healthy Living Program receives recognition as leaders in eating and activity practices

SOLANO COUNTY – The University of California’s Nutrition Policy Institute recently announced their recognition of 131 schools, 124 early care and education programs, and 78 out-of-school time programs across California as recipients of their 2023 Leaders in Eating and Activity (LEAP) Award. The Solano County Department of Health and Social Services, Public Health division, is pleased to announce that four (4) of their CalFresh Healthy Living partnering school sites in the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) are among these recipients. 

LEAP Awards recognize schools, early care and education programs, and out-of-school time programs that accomplish significant achievements in their health promotion practices that support healthy eating and active living. Awardees partner with their local health department’s CalFresh Healthy Living program to plan and implement health promotion projects. 

We applaud our partners at FSUSD for their dedication to supporting the health and well-being of the children and youth they serve. The four (4) FSUSD schools that have received 2023 LEAP Awards are: 

§  Anna Kyle Elementary School: Special Recognition for Physical Activity
§  Armijo High School: Special Recognition for Gardens
§  Dan O. Root Elementary School: Special Recognition for Gardens
§  David Weir School: Special Recognition for Nutrition and Physical Activity

Solano Public Health’s CalFresh Healthy Living Program supports healthy, active and well-nourished lifestyles by teaching residents about good nutrition and how to stretch their food dollars, while also building partnerships in communities to make healthy choices.
