Public Defender’s Office hosts Clean Slate Day: helps community members clear up criminal records

SOLANO COUNTY – The Solano County Public Defender’s Office is proud to announce its second annual Clean Slate Day on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the County Event Center, located at 601 Texas Street in Fairfield.  This free community event is designed to assist individuals in clearing past felony and misdemeanor arrests and convictions, giving them a fresh start and the opportunity to fully engage in society. 

“As a part of our vigorous defense of our clients, we take a holistic approach, supporting them beyond the courtroom," said Felicia Carrington, Chief Deputy Public Defender.  "Helping our clients clear their record through Clean Slate allows them to be active and contributing members of our community.”  

At the event, attorneys and paralegals from the Public Defender’s Office and Alternate Defender’s Office will be available to provide free legal advice and assistance in filing petitions for record expungement, reduction, or sealing.  In addition, a variety of local organizations will be on-site to connect participants with essential community services, such as employment resources, mental health and drug treatment programs, medical care, voter registration, GED classes, financial literacy workshops, and public benefits.  

Pre-Registration Encouraged
To help ensure a smooth and efficient experience, the Public Defender’s Office encourages participants to pre-register for Clean Slate Day by completing the intake form HERE.  Pre-registration will help expedite the process, allowing more people to receive assistance throughout the day.  Walk-ins will also be served on a first-come, first-served basis. 

A HISTORY OF IMPACT
In April 2023, the inaugural Clean Slate Day helped more than 200 people begin the process of clearing their criminal records. With even greater community support and resources in 2025, the Public Defender’s Office is aiming to assist even more individuals in their journey toward a fresh start.
