Show Off Their Smiles!
Tooth decay ranks as the highest chronic illness among California children. Developing good dental health habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits help children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums and can help a child’s overall wellness. The best way to prevent children from getting cavities is by having them brush regularly!
Tooth brushing can start as soon as the first tooth appears. Only water and a soft brush should be used until the age of two and then fluoride toothpaste can be added.
A child’s first dentist appointment can be made when they get their first tooth or have their first birthday! Limiting access to sugary drinks including juices and encouraging children to drink water can also help prevent cavities.
