| | | June – Sun Safety Did you know that most people receive much of their lifetime sun exposure before the age of 18? Sun damage can affect every skin color and have lifetime consequences including increased chance for skin cancer. Parents can help protect their children from sun damage by following these sun safety tips: - Keep children 6 months and under out the sun completely.
- Apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher 15-30 minutes before going outdoors.
- Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to ears, feet, hands, and neck.
- Ensure children wear protective clothing such as hats and sunglasses to help block harmful UV rays.
- The sun is the strongest between 10am and 4pm so be extra mindful during those times.
Be a good role model by consistently using sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, wearing a hat and sunglasses, and limiting your time in the sun.
