A safety plan will assist victims who are not yet ready or able to leave their batterer by providing a list of activities and resources to have on hand in the event of the next violent episode.
Below is an example of a safety plan.
Call 911 if you are in immediate danger
Teach your children how to dial 911 in case of an emergency
Tell a family member or friend what is happening in your home or relationship
Keep important information with you at all times (bank account numbers, LIFT3 phone number, spare keys, medical record number(s), social security number, etc).
Prepare a bag and keep it at a friend's or family member's home. The bag should contain:
Money, clothing, copies of important documents (such as photo identification for you and your children, driver's license, marriage license, birth certificates, social security cards, passports, health insurance information), house and car keys, etc.
Know exactly where you will go and how you will get there. Remember, you might need to leave in the middle of the night.
Do not go back home without a police escort if it is not safe to do so! It is a crime for anyone to hit you or hurt you. Help is available to you and your children - you only have to ask!
