Brad DeWall began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 1991 as a Correctional Officer. In January 1995, he became a Deputy Sheriff and attended the Napa Valley Police Academy, Class 27. Over the years, Brad served in various assignments including patrol, court security, and criminal investigations. He also served as a Field Training Officer (FTO) and was certified as both a Firearms and Taser Instructor.

Brad completed extensive specialized coursework at the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI), focusing on Homicide and Sexual Assault investigations.

In May 2006, he was promoted to Sergeant, where he supervised patrol operations and the K-9 Unit. A year later, he was selected as the Detective Sergeant of the Investigations Bureau.

In December 2010, Brad was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Investigation Services Bureau. He managed several key units including Criminal Investigations, the California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team (Cal-MMET), the Auto Theft Task Force, the Sheriff’s Enforcement Team (SET), and Marine Patrol. He also oversaw the agency’s Firearms, Defensive Tactics, and Taser training programs.

In November 2012, Brad became the Chief Deputy Coroner and the Sheriff’s Office Public Affairs Officer. He concurrently served as the Commander of both the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT).

From May to December 2015, Brad was assigned to the Solano County District Attorney’s Office as the Interim Chief Investigator. Later that year, he was promoted to Captain and assigned to command the Field Operations Division. In December 2017, he became the Division Commander of the Custody Division.

Brad was promoted to Undersheriff in February 2019.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University and possesses multiple professional certificates from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 249, and the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), Session 64, sponsored by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF).

Brad is also a proud veteran of the United States Navy.
